Richard Arnold was named Conway Corporation’s Chief Executive Officer in 1998. He began working at the Conway Corporation in 1978 in the data processing department, where he served as manager until his promotion to Manager of Finance and Accounting. Then, in 1996, he was named Chief Financial Officer. The top post has only been held by five individuals.
On May 6, 1929 the Conway Corporation was chartered with V.D. Hill, R.H. Maddox, J. Frank Jones, J.J. Hiegel and Frank E. Robins appointed as the first board members.
The board members were appointed by the city council to serve five year terms and were to receive no pay for serving. Frank E. Robins was elected as the first chairman of the Conway Corporation board and R.W. Robins and G.W. Clark were selected as attorneys to represent the board.
Fred Gordy joined the board in 1934. He resigned from the board in 1939 to become the first business manager of Conway Corporation. In 1946, Walter Scales was hired as assistant to Gordy. Gordy died in 1955 and was succeeded by Scales. James H. Brewer was hired as assistant to Scales. In December 1965, Scales died, and Brewer was selected to replace him. Brewer retired in 1991 and Bill Hegeman became general manager. His title was changed to Chief Executive Officer in 1996. When Hegeman retired in 1998, Arnold was named his successor.
