FILE TRANSFER PROTOCOL (FTP) INSTRUCTIONS

FTP Website Instructions

1. Log on to your FTP Site
2. Be sure that any information you want on your Web-Page is on your FTP Site
3. Right click on the desktop
4. Select “New”
5. Select “Text Document” from the drop down menu
6. Press “Enter”
7. Right click the new document
8. Select “Rename”
9. Type “page1.html” (do not use spaces)
10. Press “Enter”
11. Select “Yes”
12. Select “Nvu” from your desktop (HTML Editor Software)
13. Select “Open” from the toolbar at the top-left of the window
14. Select “Desktop” from the menu to the left
15. Double-click “page1.html” from the menu
16. Single-click in the large box at the right of the page
17. Type any information that you would like to display on the page
18. Select “Images” to insert pictures
a. Type “http://users.conwaycorp.net/your user name/picture name.ext”
i. your user name should be your actual user name (ex. jondoe)
ii. picture name.ext should actually be the name of the picture (ex. trees.jpg)
b. Press “Enter”
c. Select “OK”
d. Type a name for the picture
e. The picture should show up on the big page at the right of the screen
i. If the picture is too small of big double click the picture
ii. Select the “Dimersions” tab from the top of the window
iii. Select “Custom Size”
iv. Type in the Width and Height that you want the picture to be
1. This is a trial and error process
19. Continue with Steps 17 & 18 until satisfied with the page
20. Select “Save” from the top-left of the window
21. Close the program
22. Select “Nvu” from your desktop (HTML Editor Software)
23. Select “Open” from the toolbar at the top-left of the window
24. Select “Desktop” from the menu to the left
25. Double-click “index.html” from the menu
26. Type “Link to Page 1” anywhere on the page
a. You can type anything here you want, you are going to set-up a link
27. Highlight the words “Link to Page 1”
28. Select “Insert” from the menu at the top of the window
29. Select “Link…”
30. Type “http://users.conwaycorp.net/your user name/page1.html” under “Link Location”
a. your user name should be your actual user name (ex. jondoe)
31. Select “OK”
32. The words should now be blue and underlined
33. Select “Save” from the top of the window
34. Close the program
35. Drag “index.html” into your FTP Site window
36. Drop “index.html” into your FTP Site window
37. Select “Yes to All”
38. Select “Internet Explorer” from the desktop
39. Type “http://users.conwaycorp.net/your user name/index.html” in the address bar
a. your user name should be your actual user name (ex. jondoe)
40. Select “Link to Page 1” after your web-page loads
41. Page one, with all of your information, should load.
